Let's Swim!

What?
Open water swimming for capable swimmers.

When?
Sunday mornings @ 7:00AM. Check this website for last minute updates.

Where?
Rotary Park at Suntree

6495 US Highway 1, Melbourne, FL
FROM SR-520 go 9 miles south, the park is on the left.
FROM the Pineda Causeway (SR-404), go north 1.8 miles. The park is on the right at the Suntree Boulevard intersection.

How?
However you want really, but we typically will swim a 1/2 mile "lap" that looks like this (click to enlarge):

This “lap” has you start from the tree right near the green bench. You swim to the Slow Down, Manatee Zone sign, make a right, and swim to a white buoy in the approximate location of the sailboat in the above image, then swim back to the tree - a quick jog around the tree and back in the water for another lap or more.

You should be able to swim at least 1/2 mile unassisted - there are no lifeguards, and you're responsible for your own safety and assume all risks of swimming in an open body of water.

Why?
Pool swimming is boring and many of us are training for open water swimming events or triathlons, so the training is more specific and appropriate.

Who?
Myself when I'm not racing, and a few other local triathletes.
